Friction Folders: The oldest known folding pocket knife was found in Hallstatt, Austria dating back to 600BC and guess what, it was a friction folder. If you don't know what a friction folder is it's a simple knife that has no lock or spring and is held open and closed by the friction between the handle slabs and the blade. It doesn't get much simpler than that and that's its beauty. If you use one of these knives like it's designed to be used, for cutting, not stabbing, you'll really enjoy their light weight, clean and simple design and performance on all those everyday things you carry a pocket knife for. I've been carrying several of these as my everyday shop knife for the past couple of years and loving them. Yes, I said several of them since every time I show it to someone they seem to talk me out of it and I have to make myself another one to replace it, but that's not such a bad thing is it. I've turned quite a few folks on to these little gems that way. For steel I've used 1095, carbon "Alabama Damascus" and ATS-34 for blades. I like Micarta for handles because of it's light weight to strength ratio, toughness and I think the canvas and linen varieties make beautiful handles too. I make them in a couple of sizes and styles and am coming up with new patterns all the time. Here's what's new. |

Available Now: At Left $180 each your choice
These all have ATS-34 satin finished blades.
Stainless pins and screws as well as a fancy mosaic pin in the handle.
Black canvas Micarta handles with red linen Micarta butt spacers.
Friction tension is adjustable with the pivot screw. I set them quite snug so just remember friction is your friend, DON"T adjust them too loose or they won't work properly and your fingers may pay the price. |
