Welcome to KLHoffman.com the on-line home of KLH Knives.

Hi, I’m Kevin L. Hoffman, your host and the creator of the knives and other art works that you’ll find throughout my site. I’ve been a lover of knives all my life, but I started experimenting with making them while I was finishing my undergraduate degree in Art at Western Illinois University. My major concentration at WIU had been in the area of Jewelry & Metal Arts Design so I was developing skills that lent themselves to knife making. In 1977 when I was starting my experimentation there was very little information available about knife making, but I read what I could find and started the trial and error process of teaching myself. I continued my studies at The University of Iowa, earning my Masters Degree in Art Metals & Jewelry in 1980. I had continued my experimentation with knife making while working on my degree at U of Iowa. In 1981 my wife Lorrie and I had moved to Kansas City and I decided I wanted to make knives full time, so I borrowed $500 to set up a very small  shop and jumped right into the fire of knife making, bypassing the frying pan entirely. Fortunately for me the Knifemaker’s Guild Show happened to be held in KC every July at that time. I submitted my application and joined the Guild in 1983 and in 2007 I was elected to the Board of Directors of the Knifemaker’s Guild and I served in that capacity until 2013 when I stepped down to go on "Walk About". Thank you for your interest in my work and enjoy your visit.

Keep Sharp, Kevin
